The Santa Clara Sporting 95 Boys Green Team won the 2012 Far West Regional League Fall season and earned a berth to compete in the 2013 Far West Regional Tournament (Region IV) held June 17th-23rd in Honolulu, Hawaii. Acceptance into the US Youth Soccer Region IV elite tournament requires teams to win their State Cup Championship tournament, or finish 1st in the elite Far West Regional Fall or Spring league. Region IV consists of the following 13 states: California North, California South, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Idaho, Wyoming, Utah, Oregon, Washington, Hawaii, and Alaska.
The Sporting 95 Team competed in 6 games during the months of August-September, then won the four-team playoff games defeating the FC Pheonix Academy, SMUFC and Laguna United teams at Veterans Park in Southern California back in November.
Coach Demitri Cacoyannis’s team is no stranger to competing in the Far West Regional Tournament as his team has won four consecutive Cal-North State Cup titles and competed in the Far West Regional Tournament the past four years. The team just competed in the 2012 College Surf Cup Tournament over the Thanksgiving weekend in what could easily be described as the "group of death" against some of the top teams in the country, and a professional academy team from Guatemala.
The team is off competing in high school soccer season right now, and will regroup in the Spring to defend their State Cup titles. Can they win 5 in a row?
Congratulations and Aloha!
