The Santa Clara Sporting ’93 Girls Green Team are one of the top ranked teams in United States and coming-off a very successful 2009 season. They are currently ranked #5 in the US, #2 in Northern California and #4 in Region IV by Gotsoccer. In 2009, the team won the US Club Soccer Region IV Championship for the second year running, won the District II Cup last weekend while playing-up in the U19 age group, and were Finalists (2nd place) at the SoCal Blues Cup, Cal-North State Cup and Placer United Cup this season.
The foundation of their success is guided by head coach Jose Luis Hernandez and team manager Zeljko Sola. They focus on attracting dedicated soccer players, then train and develop the teams’ technical and tactical soccer skills, and physical fitness. Santa Clara has 17 talented players on the team, and a stable of athletes through-out all levels of ODP. Mariana Galvin is currently on the U15 US National Team, Haley Hughes and Zarette Munoz are on the Region IV ODP Team, Hayley Wilson and Ana Marie Zola are on the Cal-North State ODP Team, and Gabriella Ley, Sarah Bennett and Madison Salom are District ODP team members. Lindsay Mewes also competed on the Cal-North State ODP Championship earlier in the year.
The team is currently competing in the Abronzino League, the Far West Regional League, and will travel to San Diego to compete in the College Surf Cup in November. Congratulations to all the players, coaches and parents.
