Coaching & Player Development

SCYSL has been working on a new coaching program that will provide the building blocks for a structured approach to coaching across all age groups in the club.

The vision for the program is to develop an actively supported, motivated and qualified SCYSL Coaching Community. The aim is to help improve and develop players so they are ready for the next level, and to produce teams that play an attractive and technically sound attacking style of soccer. The dream is that our players, coaches and other participants will derive a lot of fun and enjoyment by being part of the club and will therefore continue to be involved in the beautiful game for many years to come.

Coaching Development
This program is managed by Steve Robertson, SCYSL Coaching Director, and is focused to ensure all SCYSL Coaches are properly licensed according to CYSA regulations, and also to provide soccer training and coaching resources. You can reach Steve at

Player Development
This program is managed by Jeff Jenkins, SCYSL Player Development Director, and is designed to provide a structured system of soccer training that will develop players from the beginner soccer player throughout the competitive levels. You can reach Jeff at

CYSA Approves New CAL Soccer League for 2010

March 17, 2010 - The CYSA Board of Directors announce the formation of the CYSA-CAL Soccer League (CCSL). This new state wide playing league will provide Division 1 and Division 3 teams the ability to seek higher levels of competition. This will result in improved player and team development. The league is open to all Division 1 and Division 3 soccer teams aged U9 – U19. CYSA wants to provide an environment for all levels and accommodate teams as best as we can. We realize it is important to place teams within a competitive league and this is vitally important to the integrity of the league. CYSA will offer a fall, spring and winter league to accommodate the needs of Northern California.

Depending upon their standings in the past year, Division 1 teams should apply for the State Premier, the State Gold, the Regional level, or the Gold/Silver levels of the District playing league division. Division 3 teams should apply for the Bronze or Copper levels of the District playing league division. Teams may choose to register in a Region or District Division that is different from their designated region or district. Once all applications have been received, the CYSA Cal Soccer League will make a determination as to the initial playing level for each team.

Visit the CYSA to read FAQs or visit the CYSA website for more details about the league

New CYSA Coaching Policy Doubles Course Availability

CYSA District 2 has changed their soccer coaching credential policy, and coaches are now able to enroll and complete both CYSA and NSCAA courses. You can find available CYSA D2 Coaching Courses listed on the CYSA website, and NSCAA Coaching Courses on their website.

This policy pertains to ALL District 2 coaches for Division 1 (Class 1) and Division  3 (Class 3) teams.

SCYSL Scrimmage Game Policy

All SCYSL teams need to be aware of League policies regarding scrimmages.

Because practice space is so tight and teams all have limited practice time, no scrimmages may be scheduled on SCYSL practice fields weekday evenings (Monday-Thursday) during the fall season (August 1 - early December).  Scrimmages may only be scheduled Friday evenings, Saturdays, and Sundays, and then only if these scrimmages do not interfere with scheduled Playing League or Cup games.
